Areas of Practice

At IMHC, our purpose centers around three pilars: Education, Consultation, and Supervision. Read more below about how we work to incorporate these elements in specific areas of practice.

Mental Health

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel and act as we cope with life. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Found out how IMHC can assist you in becoming a qualified mental health provider.

Addiction

Addiction is a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary responsibilities and concerns, such as work, relationships, or health. Find out how IMHC can provide you with valuable resources in evidence-based addiction practices.

Trauma

Psychological trauma may set in after a distressing or life-threatening event. Sufferers may develop extreme anxiety or PTSD, or they may have ongoing problems with relationships and self-esteem. But many overcome trauma, offering inspiration to others who have had life-altering negative experiences. Find out how IMHC can assist you earning certifications in specialized trauma work.

Rehabilitation

Psychological treatment centers, including rehabilitation and recovery centers for co-occurring illnesses, treat millions of people every year. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, over 26 percent of all Americans suffer from at least one mental disorder. Unfortunately, due to the stigma of mental illness, most people who suffer from even the most common disorders keep their struggles a secret, which only adds to the misconception that mental illness is rare. Find out how IMHC can assist you in building your program for mental health rehabilitation.

Traumatic Brain Injury

Traumatic brain injury, often referred to as TBI, is most often an acute event similar to other injuries. That is where the similarity between traumatic brain injury and other injuries ends. One moment the person is normal and the next moment life has abruptly changed. Find out how IMHC can provide you with valuable resources in evidence-based practices in the psychological treatment of TBI.

Counselor Education

It is the goal of IMHC to prepare mental health counselors, who generate, use, and disseminate knowledge about human development and human relating to enrich the quality of life for all people, and who collaborate with others to solve critical personal, family, educational, social, and vocational problems in a diverse global community. Find out how IMHC can provide you with International Education and Cross-Cultural supervision.
